Dr. J. Curves Fat Grafting to the Breasts

If you are looking to increase the size of your breasts but are concerned about the look and/or feel of breast implants, consider the Dr. J. Curves breast augmentation using your own body fat.  Many people are familiar with the Brazilian Butt Lift – a procedure that enlarges the buttocks with a person’s own fat.  The same technique can be applied to breast enlargement.  The surgery starts with liposuction to remove fat from unwanted areas of the body like the abdomen, love handles, back, thighs, etc.  This fat is then injected into the breasts to add volume and fullness with a very natural result.

Fat grafting is a great technique for breast augmentation.  One reason for this is that it leaves fewer scars on the breasts.  Since the fat is injected with a small cannula, there is no need for large incisions.  Also, fat looks and feels natural.  Many of my patients who want to increase their breast size have hesitated because they are afraid of a “fake look.”  I have heard terms like “Sponge Bob Square Boobs,” “Double Bubble,” and “Beach Ball Barbie Boobs.” Since fat is a natural body tissue, it has a very natural look.  It also feels great to the touch!  The amount of fat injected as well as its placement is individualized for each woman’s body.

The Dr. J. Curves breast enlargement with fat is easy to combine with other breast procedures.  It can be performed with a breast lift (mastopexy) for women who want to raise their nipples to a perkier position.  For this women with very little body fat or for those seeking a dramatic increase in size – fat grafting can be combined with breast implants.  When combined with a breast implant, the fat is used to camouflage the implant.  This helps avoid hard implants that are visible under the skin.

Fat grafting is also commonly used for breast reconstruction after mastectomy.  It can be performed alone or in conjunction with an implant or muscle flap.

The most common question that I am asked about Dr. J. Curves fat grafting is how long the fat will last.  Many patients tell me they have heard rumors about the fat absorbing after the procedure.  The truth is that some of the fat cells do not survive the transplantation procedure (probably about 25% of the fat).  I compensate for this by injecting a bit more fat than is needed for the final result.  It takes about 6 weeks for the swelling associated with surgery to go down and for the damaged fat cells to be absorbed.  The fat that remains at this time will provide a long-lasting result.  The fat that is transferred to the breasts behaves like the rest of the fat in your body – it may increase or decrease a bit with significant changes in your weight, but no more so than the other fat on your body.
